The Galaxy S has become the first smartphone to sell two million units in Korea. Samsung Electronics said Sunday the gadget hit the milestone within just six months of its release here on June 25.

In comparison, Apple's iPhone series has sold 1.8 million units here since its debut in November last year.

The Galaxy S is also on track to become the first Android-powered smartphone to hit the 10 million mark in worldwide sales by the end of this month, as its cumulative sales reached 9.3 million units as of Friday.

The iPhone 4, which debuted in the global market around the same time as the Galaxy S, reached 14 million in global sales in October.

Meanwhile, Samsung's Galaxy Tab tablet PC recently surpassed the 100,000 mark in domestic sales, and the one million mark worldwide.
