Rovio Mobile's Angry Birds game has been downloaded more than seven million times on Android since its release in mid-October.
The developer revealed the milestone in a tweet, responding to questions about why the game was made free and ad-supported for Android.
When Twitter user 'Andrew4Lyf' pointed out that "Not all android games are free", Rovio responded thus: "true, but the ones with more than 50K downloads are... We just hit 7M downloads on Android"
Rovio launched Angry Birds as a free download via GetJar last month, before also releasing it on Google's own Android Market.
The developer has since reported a series of impressive downloads milestones. However, the more important stats - as yet unannounced - concern how much money the game is making from its ads.
