WebOS has always garnered good reviews for its modernity and browser/cloud credentials. Now the Palm unit has been continuing to develop the new version of the platform, along with an upgraded Palm Pre 2 smartphone.
The Palm Pre 2 apart most of all is the webOS operating system. Featuring full multitasking and a highly polished and usable interface, webOS 2.0 also comes with improved support for social networking, messaging and there's also a beta version of Adobe Flash 10.1 for rich web-based multimedia. The new 1GHz processor promises to make a very responsive operating system even better.
Jon Rubinstein, general manager of HP's Palm business unit, said: "We've made tremendous strides since the platform launched, and now we're taking our biggest leap forward with powerful new features that make it easier to get more things done with your webOS device."
The Pre 2 is similar to its predecessors, though rather sleeker, with a more powerful 1GHz processor and improved enterprise features such as updated Office and VPN support. The main innovation, though, is in the software upgrade.

Special Note: The original Palm Pre never lived up to the high expectations created by its glitzy launch, and HP's strategic focus for webOS seems to lie in turning it into a new-style web services platform, spanning multiple devices and screens, and bringing together tablets, printers and the cloud. However, for now it is clearly willing to generate what smartphone momentum it can, using the Palm brand rather than its own handset family - its shortlived flirtation with Android smartphones ended with the switch to webOS.
